Proposers should seek: to increase our understanding of microbial processes at the interface with such materials; to elucidate the geologic record of microbial activity at that interface at any time scale including the co-evolution of the geosphere and biosphere through such interactions; to better understand the impact of microbes on biogeochemical processes operating at that interface; or to develop new methods and research techniques for the study of geomicrobial processes.
